Body Barre

At least once in every little girl’s life she is forced into an uncomfortable leotard, a bunched itchy tulle tutu and shiny ballet slippers. This adorable rite-of-passage also comes with exposure to the occasional French word or phrase like Elevé and Plié.

I decided to try out our Body Barre class and hoped it didn’t remind me of my early exposure to ballet. All I have to say after Mary Jane’s class is…

LADIES instead of spending an hour on the treadmill with the incline on a ridiculous level just hoping to thin those thighs. Simply get off and walk up stairs to the second floor. YOU ARE GOING TO FEEL THE BURN.

At one point mid Plié I thought to myself I would rather be at soccer pre-season in the middle of August.  But after the work out was over, my body was pumped with endorphins!

The combinations of Plie’ and Elevé and the occasional pointe while using the barre made me feel a burn in muscles I had no idea existed. As women we look at supermodels and all we see is LEGS… WELL …. This is how I intend to sculpt mine! Also, I fully expect my glutes to thank me for taking this class.

So consider breaking up your workout routine and join me at the YMCA of Greenwich’s Body Barre. The next day you might be sore but I promise the burn will be worth it and thankfully no embarrassing leotard or tutu is required!!

Till next time,

MEGAN PAVIA
